We purchased the building in Old Brompton Road early 2006. It used to be a 3* hotel which was very dated and neglected, a labyrinth of partitioned rooms, flaking paint & threadbare carpets. The building required total gutting and taking back to the original shell, which remained elegant in its proportions. During the process we discovered many original features which we wanted to retain and restore.
We initially commissioned architect Marwan Jamal of Markam Associates to take care of all the necessary planning and local authority permissions, liaise with the structural engineers and quantity surveyors. Marwan also produced architectural layouts for our house, as well as elevation drawings for the whole of the building.
Once the construction started, however, it was clear we needed further help with the project, especially with the interior finishes.
We met Nicola through a mutual friend. We felt she immediately understood our requirement for a traditional house with a modern twist, which would also be suitable for busy family life. Nicola produced a detailed and comprehensive design package. The choice of the colours, textures and finishes was everything we had dreamt about.
Nicola also helped us with all the bespoke joinery and many other technical & design issues. Her support throughout the project was imperative for us to achieve such a fabulous home, which we love sharing with our family and friends.
